The City of Ember

By: Jeanne DuPrau

“There could be a black out any day now.”   Imagine a world that has NO technology and hardly any light (that doesn’t come from the sky).  You may think its crazy, but this is how my character Lina lives. As well as everyone else in The City of Ember.  The lights on at 6:00AM and lights out at 9:00PM.  They don’t control their own lights, the City Council does.

After Lina’s grandmother tears the whole apartment apart to find something, Lina ends up spying that peculiar thing that her grandmother had trouble getting ahold of.  The mysterious box had a paper in it that her sister, Poppy, got to it before she ever could.  Poppy ended up tearing the paper into little pieces and even put some of it in her mouth.

Over time she figures out just about half of the paper, and it ends up being something about “Instructions” that she believed can take not only her but the whole town out of Ember.

I would suggest this book to anyone who likes mysteries.  This book is one that will leave you hanging, and always has you sitting on the edge of your seat.  You will be begging for more when you finish!
